Support Wanes in House for Genocide Vote
Worried about antagonizing Turkish leaders, House members from both parties have begun to withdraw their support from a resolution backed by the Democratic leadership that would condemn as genocide the mass killings of Armenians nearly a century ago...

Funny, how interest turns the tide. So what tools were used to make the pro-resolution guys change their mind? Any guess is very welcome.

“We simply cannot allow the grievances of the past, as real as they may be, to in any way derail our efforts to prevent further atrocities for future history books,”

Wow, so well said! I love diplomatic language. Sounds like the Reconciliation here in SA. Only that the institution dealing with it is called The Truth And Reconciliation Commission (TLC).

By the way, were the things which the Anglos did to the Boers a genocide or not?

I feel confused

you know I don't see why is that large controversy about historical events like Holocost and Armenia genocide I simply don't see a reason of this unneeded noise!!!
it isn't as if they are asking turkey to pay compensation! or that Armenia will gain the world sympathy for a crime that is already a history!!
I really think that the congress tried to take some action without understanding even the meaning and consequences of its decisions and it just ended by another trial to please Turkish leaders and this will give this congress more Idiot picture!!

Well most people don't see why they need this resolution about the Armenian Genocide right now. But if we look at the US politica situation at the moment, we'll notice that the moment is very conventient for the Democrats to harm the Republicans. Voting a resolution which confirms the Armenian Genocide would anger Turkey in a moment when Turkey considers the possibility to start military actions against the Kurds in Northern Iraq. This would damage the US military positions in Iraq even more than they are damaged now, which would urge the US government to withdraw from Iraq even faster. And this is in favour of the Democrats. I know it looks very "unpatriotic" from a Bush point of view, but well. Those are the political realities.

However, it is obvious that the Democrats have changed their mind. Maybe because the Republicans are in deep shit anyway.
