Bad times for China

It seems this is not a happy year for China... I just hope the casualties will stop growing and more globally, that China will have a much better 2nd half of the year (with the greatest Olympics ever made)! The Chinese people definitely deserve a gift like that, for all the troubles that they've gone through...

And - another thing. Just compare the swift and decisive way that the Chinese government has responded to the disaster, and the way the US government "responded" to the Katrina disaster. Make the comparison for yourself.

On the other hand, its appalling that most towns and villages in this area of Sichuan (as many other places across China) are suffering from a chronic lack of proper housing, which might be the main reason for the disproportionate number of casualties :-(
It's an issue worth thinking about...

The Dalai Lama called down the wrath of the Almighty Buddha upon them!

Okay, thousands of people died and I'm a dick for cracking a joke about it. But I'm weak, I couldn't resist.

Yes I only steal from the best, so help yourself if you want any of them. Well, except for the ones with my pic on it, that would be kinda creepy. :P

I know China will eventually be a dick if they continue growing, but so far, they;ve really been a country to support. They responded to this very fast and have asked every single of their citizen to assist in any way they can.

It is exactly this resilience that has allowed them to survive as a nation for thousands and thousands of years. And they'll probably outlast everyone else.

wait a minute...

That, too. However, India has never claimed a world superpower role.

I beg to differ

while the country may be more softly spoken, when in comparison to others, their overall influence on international business tendencies and trends is a very mighty pull....subtle it may seem, but I assure you it's big. Sure...the U.S. outsources many interests to China...but even more 'skilled' interests to India.

Either way, both nations are equally heavily populated. The population-factor will be what assures their longevity and survival in the end.

Yes the disaster is terrible but when I look at the attitude of the Chinese people I cannot see even a trace of desperation nor any political fights and quarrels in a difficult moment like this. It sometimes makes me ask myself whether democracy really works well in such extreme circumstances.

Now you'll be attacked by a swarm of China-bashers. Just count them.
