mahnmut: (Quaero togam pacem)

Apostasy in Islam (Arabic: ارتداد, irtidād or ridda) is commonly defined as the rejection of Islam in word or deed by a person who has been a Muslim. All five major schools of Islamic jurisprudence agree that a sane male apostate must be executed. A female apostate may be put to death, according to some schools, or imprisoned, according to others. - from Wikipedia.

  • The Malaysian Federal Court rejects an appeal by Christian convert Lina Joy to have the word "Islam" removed from her identity card.

Muslim immigrants are allowed all rights in the western countries. And they demand for even more - they want their own schools, keeping their names, dressing code, traditions, practicing their religion. They demand tolerance and they receive tolerance.

But what happens if someone living in a Muslim country wants to convert away from Islam and to change her name? She becomes a criminal and is persecuted by society. She gets no tolerance. I'm asking: how much longer can people's tolerance last and to what extreme extents can it be pushed? And what will happen when people finally get pissed off and say enough is enough?

We have no right to judge the Malaysian society. But Azlina Jailani / Lina Joy / What-ever made a free choice. If she cannot continue living in her (backward?) society, she should be given assylum in a country where she'll be granted freedoms and limitless tolerance - perhaps even more than reasonable. And certainly more than most of the locals.
