"World Series today -- assuming the world only includes New York to Pennsylvania".
(Stephen Colbert)

So THIS! :-)))

Anyway. Who are you rooting for?

As for myself, don't ask me. I don't understand this game.

Calling it 'world' series is a little preposterous, isn't it.

Correct. Baseball sucks less.

Of course, it still sucks. (ZOMG how un-American of me!)

I'll happily go along with your preference for Rugby as long as we are talking union here, not that toilet of a sport known as Rugby League (I'll still take Aussie Rules over rugby, and association football over them all :P)

Actually my fave sport (I mean to play) has always been volleyball. I'm quite good at it. Maybe because of my height or because we played it in school. I was on my high school team too.

OK but why do they call it 'world' when it is not.

Once upon a time it was sponsored by a newspaper called "The World", hence, "The World" Series. The name kinda stuck and I don't think anyone was too concerned to change the perception.

That must explain the NBA 'World' series as well, then.

I always have thought they should reorganize the World Series to be like the World Cup, i.e. with national teams rather than select local teams from the US and Canada.

...provided anyone cares about this game. Right?

The Japanese are fond of it, and there's a Caribbean Series between a few Latin American nations. According to Wikipedia (barrel of salt, ahoy!) there's actually niche leagues all over Europe.

And how many people play it and how many people watch it worldwide? Please.

I stand corrected. No surprise the Japanese are off to an early start towards dominating it.

The World Series includes Canada, which for many Americans is a state, not a foreign country. And surprisingly, besu-boru (as the Japanese call it) is very popular in French-speaking Quebec. In any case, it all borus the heck out of me. I like "soccer", if only because so many goodlooking men participate in it :-))

The most boring thing about American football is this constant interrupting of play. I have the impression the play time is about 10% of the duration of a match. And stoppage time - WTF!?

Oh. Did I say American football? Yeah that's another boring sport too.
