Let nobody say the present-day USA is renowned for its moral courage or ability to deal with facts it doesn't like.

the USA is a society ONLY interested in how it is perceived, and not particularly in outcomes or results. If it can portray itself as a democratic country that rules according to law and is noble in pursuing its foreign policy, then it doesn't matter if its soldiers go rogue, rape and pillage, and mercenaries do the same. That is why they are so obsessed with squashing the whistleblowers. And the American media censors itself and adjusts its focus to prove that it is patriotic - the truth hardly matters.
