Poland/Russia, the dirty rivalry
Nov. 23rd, 2006 06:24 pmThe Poland v Russia dirty game continues, as their relations continue to deteriorate. The rivalry between the two has a long and rich history. The list is long, starting from the Middle Ages (Rzeczpospolyta) and XX century (Poland's re-shaping of borders and Molotov/Ribbentrop treaty), to the communist era, Karol Wojtyla & Lech Walesa, and now the trans-Baltic pipeline, Poland's pro-US stance, the CIA bases, EU and now this. I wonder where all this will end.
a) the tensions will continue to escalate rapidly reaching a pinpoint at a potentially great political scandal, with EU, US and WTO involved
b) the relations will continue to be shaky and unstable, the EU finding itself with a hard task to balance between the interests of its EU member (Poland) and its strategic partner (Russia)
c) both Poland and Russia will find the compromising solution and will make some efforts with EU's mediation
d) Russia will stop harrassing Poland and will accept it as a strategic partner along with the rest of EU
Your bets?
