ANCYL plays it rough
Nov. 18th, 2008 12:22 pmIOL SA has an interesting article about the recent ANC Youth League response to the comments in the SA media regarding the breakaway COPE fraction and ANCYL's behaviour in relation to these events.
ANCYL hits back
Stung by suggestions that it was "defiant and unruly", the ANC Youth League has hit back at its critics, accusing them - including the media - of slander and distortion and playing into the hands of the breakaway Congress of the People (COPE).
In a statement on Monday, ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shivambu reaffirmed the league's "commitment and adherence" to the political guidance of the ANC.
"Our primary task is to mobilise young people behind the vision of the ANC, while championing youth development. There is no amount of slander and distortion which will ever divert us from these noble roles and objectives," Shivambu said.
Even Zuma has felt uncomfortable with Malema's tone in the recent days, and that says a lot. But let's see some of the comments below, because many of them are hitting right into the heart of the issues...
"Cope have my vote for so many years. I voted once since 1994. I was looking for a better opposition and now I have found one. I want to be a full member of cope, which will focus on the development of our beautiful country..Malema is making me sick and tired."
'Malema should be left to his own devices. He is a complete idiot with very little education and I think he will be the demise of the ANC. So leave him to it."
"For as much as this loyalist are entitled to their opinions, it is quite sad to see that all their comments are not based on the extreme challanges that are facing us now. They talk cheap African politics which have destroyed the rest of other African countries. Things like "They recalled Zuma so what's wrong with recalling Mbeki?" Whether Mbeki was right or wrong is not the issue as 2 wrongs wouldn't make it right. That's so primary school."
"People of SA should erase the believe that our country is immune to becoming a banana republic. What takes a century to build can take a day to destroy. Beware, it takes one person to decide on acting and within a days the whole country can turn into chaos. It has happened in Kenya, and even here in SA we recently experienced Xenephobic attacks. It only took one person in Alexandra to say "stuff the foriegners" and the whole country was in chaos."
"Once this country has turned into a banana republic, all the toyi-toyis and the freedom of speech which S. Africans are used to, and all the human rights that S. African are enjoying as compared to other African states will diminish and just like any other african state, we will expirience worse police brutality and nobody will act on it. You'll have to bribe to get essential services."
"Vote with your heart and not your brains, keep on advocating what Malema is preaching, because when the violence erupts even you personally or your family will not be guaranteed safety just because you were on Malema's side. it is then that you'll expirience what all other africans are feeling."
"I think what is happening now is good because ANC member were so relaxed and it's time for them to work for positions they are in.South Africa needs a strong black opposition party to put them (ANC) on-line. Ordinary people of south Africa will benefit from this and service delivery will be at it's best. DA is like a drop of water in the sea compared to ANC and they are not effective. ANC forgot about youth long time ago. Can you please give only one ANCYouth Legue program for the youth of RSA"
And my favourite one:
"from the way the ANC Youth League is carrying on interfering with the running of the goverment its a shame. what they were suppossed to be doing is to help in the building and educating the youth about how important is education and how can the youth help in erradicating crime and poverty and what is needed to be able to produce better leaders if julies is able to tell others about their education where does he put himself about his so to led by someone who doen't think when he talk i will rather give the leadership to the security because he is strategic and he thinks before he says something"
I've boldened the parts with which I deem most important.
