Border Cave in South Africa was occupied by humans for tens of thousands of years.

Researchers have found new evidence of modern culture's beginnings in a cave in South Africa. These findings may indicate that 'modern behavior as we know it' has existed for longer than previously thought.

The current mainstream theory indicates that there was a branch originating from the core of human civilization that split to the south from the Great Rift valley, and moved to the southern tip of the continent, while the rest moved north, and became the basis of modern humankind. In this sense, the southern splinter group constitutes a unique branch of humankind.
