I don't think there is a monolithic neo-con movement. They are no more inevitable in world history than the communists were, with whom they share a penchant for authoritarianism, for lying, manipulation, and hubris. the U.S. neo-cons overreached so far with the Iraq war and their other post-9-11 antics that they've even given many american rightwingers pause. They are their own worst enemy whenever they are elected into power. Look at Thatcher. Look at Blair. Look at Cheney. All now widely despised even by their former supporters. Sarkozy is one of them too, but like so many other neo-cons, although he'll do damage, hopefully he will be thrown on the dustheap of history, just like the rest of them.
