On the refugee crisis
Sep. 4th, 2015 09:08 amJust two pieces for more context.
The US has announced they are prepared to assist the EU with the refugee crisis, but they would not accept refugees on US soil, because "Europe has the capacity to deal with the problem on its own".
Meanwhile, in his typical manner, Putin has said what many are thinking, but dare not say: that the West, particularly the US, are responsible for the refugee crisis in Europe, because they have been pursuing a policy of exporting liberal democracy to the Middle East without taking the local peculiarities in consideration.

Re: Source?
Date: 2015-09-10 07:50 am (UTC)It's been pointed out to me (by my Macau-born and raised) sweetie, who keeps abreast of Chinese goings-on, that similar lines are being drawn in the Far East.
My point is that no attempt has been made by the West to establish democracies, liberal or otherwise, anywhere in the Middle East; our interventions there have used the rhetoric to cover old-fashioned imperialism, and Moscow and Bejjing are buying the rhetoric for their own anti-democratic goals.
Basically, I'm arguing that Putin knows this very well, but is taking the US at its (lying) word for his own purposes.
