Doesn't it seem like the Dems are always in danger of something? I mean, what the hell?...

Democrats are in danger of going too far left for 2018

Mind you, I suspect many of those on the left see what the article states as being true. The majority of Americans may not want an extreme left Democratic Party but rather a moderate Democratic Party (hell, don't we already know that the rich corporate donors want Republican-Lite, heh). In the meantime, many believe the only way to win is be the exact opposite of the far right, especially now. But isn't it perhaps a bit too premature to believe that by just being as loud and vocal as the far-right was in 2016, the far-left would actually win in 2020?

There's also the usual complaint from Dems that no matter how hard they keep being moderate and trying to find common ground, the right just keeps going farther and farther right, demanding that they should meet in the "new middle" if bipartisanship is to ever happen. You know, a center that's ever shifting to the right. I mean, hell, I bet Reagan would be a fucking Democrat by today's standards!

As for this particular case, I see no problem with a junior representative being progressive. She'll soon learn how things work in the House. The real question is whether establishment Democrats would throw her under the bus the first time she makes a real-world decision that doesn't quite measure up to their expectations. Like I said, Republican-Lite.

There's no viable, true left in the US. Has never been. Even less so nowadays.

I tend to agree with the notion that, especially after this administration, most folks would be craving for normalcy before taking on more ambitious projects. I expect there'd be an enormous amount of correction and restoration to do before moving on. After the catharsis of these 4 years, the next presidential election is going to be critical for redeeming US democracy, and something tells me far-left goals might be considered just as overwhelming as right-wing ones, and most people would decide they've had enough of overwhelming, and they'd want something more boring and predictable.

I mean, aiming for high goals in the future is awesome, but restoring the hundreds of laws and correcting the huge amount of damage done, is quite a lot - and that'll be the priority task. If the US ends up with an experienced democratic president next, one of considerable integrity (in contrast to the current one), and who has an extremely competent and experienced team beside him, that might be possible. They may even work toward some progressive goals. Like restoring the respect of America's allies, removing those ridiculous tariffs and securing future elections, increasing cyber capability and general security, especially in relation to Russia, China and NKorea. These are all huge tasks that will need urgent addressing, once Trump is gone.

And I don't only mean erasing the damage that Trump is doing. I'm saying all sides will need to do some thorough soul-searching, and behavior-changing. For example, all sides should stop viewing the rest of the world as if it's some sort of US neo-colony, and talking smack about other countries. That's what the Democrats have become too, not just hawkish Republicans: warmongers. And this has actually preceded Trump by decades. Have we already forgotten the almost unanimous support for W's adventure in Afghanistan and Iraq? Come on!

Surely, all of this will happen only after people get their head out of the clouds and realize just how much exploitation and belligerence this country is responsible for. Then they'll need to mobilize and maybe fuck some shit up on the way to restoration of normalcy. Sadly, as of now too many people are still oblivious about these challenges, so we'll have to wait a while.

In conclusion, people do know that extremes suck. We can see that with Trump. But he does have his followers, the core base. If you throw out another extreme, people will look at it and be disgusted with both and either stay home or vote for the guy currently in power because at least they know where he stands. That's a phenomenon that has shown itself true over and over in the past.

If we're to really consider the true dangers the Dems are facing, it's the prospect of them doubling down on identity politics and socialism, splitting up society even further, and thus getting Trump re-elected.

This battle is theirs to lose.

And I'm saying all this, while myself being a Bloody Pinko Commie(TM).
