Racial prejudice complaints heard at SAHRC hearing

Former journalist Thandeka Qubule says the media has not been part of the country's transformation process.

Qubule was speaking at the public hearings held by the South African Human Rights Commission in Johannesburg. It is hearing complaints of racial prejudice against the newly re-launched Forum for Black Journalists.

At its inaugural meeting last month the forum invited ANC President Jacob Zuma to address them, but excluded white journalists. This has angered some journalists who lodged a complaint with the Commission.

Qubule says the newly formed FBJ will help end the juniorisation of black journalists and institutional racism in the media.

Simply put, that's a legalized favoring of blacks over whites, for example when hiring them for job, and regardless of their actual level of qualification.

But thats not democratic, like why to hire a person to the job if he doesnt have good qualification?

Some people think it's "fair", or maybe they hope it'll rectify the disbalances which this country has inherited from the past. My opinion is that this is not the right way to do that.
