"China's official Xinhua New Agency published commentary Sunday accusing Pelosi of ignoring the violence caused by the Tibetan rioters.

"'Human rights police' like Pelosi are habitually bad tempered and ungenerous when it comes to China, refusing to check their facts and find out the truth of the case," it said.

"Her views are like so many other politicians and western media. Beneath the double standards lies their intention to serve the interest groups behind them, who want to contain or smear China," it said." (AP)

Tell me which part of the above is not correct? Then why is it not so broadly reflected in the media like what the Dalai Lama says? No, don't answer to me.

Scholars Urge Dialogue With Dalai Lama

A group of prominent Chinese intellectuals has circulated a petition urging the government to stop what it has called a “one-sided” propaganda campaign and initiate direct dialogue with the Dalai Lama.

It's absolutely true that tibetan lamaism was one of the most oppressive feudal societies on earth, and it's also true that the Chinese communists increased literacy and liberated Tibetan serfs from centuries of oppression. Unfortunately nowadays, the Chinese have kept their own rotten oppressive system and violate human rights all the time, and not just of the minority populations inside their borders. Human rights aren't a "western" concept - they are a "human" concept. Western countries violate and historically violated human rights, how could it be denied? - France in Algeria, USofA in Iraq and its own legacy against native Americans, the Brits everywhere their empire stretched...the Dutch in Indonesia...the Belgians in the Congo, the GERMANS -- the list is endless. So although there is plenty of hypocrisy in the West, men and women of good will HAVE to protest human rights violations wherever they are, including China. My frustration is that the USofA has made itself economically dependent on one of the most corrupt regimes in the world, and willingly turns a blind eye to its continued violations of human rights so it can buy cheap crap for its Wal-Marts. Now and then it criticizes China, but not very much - Russia is criticized far more severely...

boycott China, boycott the olympics, make the Dalai Lama the king of Tibet and invade with another Coalition of the Willing ;-) The cheap plastic would be all that survives that nuclear holocaust... so really, I don't know. The Tibetans want their own country, and China is NOT going to let it happen...What do you think the solution is?

Broader autonomy. Kicking the US spies out of Tibet. Waiting for the next Dalai Lama and hoping he won't be bought by CIA this time.

I'm really pissed off by the trend which started with the Kosovo precedent. Now Russia has "recognized" Ossetia and Abhkasia. Shit...
